The patient support specialist serves patients by providing health related information, scheduling appointments, addressing patient inquiries and resolving patient service problems. Other duties may be assigned from time to time. Duties and Tasks: 1) Confer with patients by telephone or electronic means to provide information about health related information, to schedule or cancel appointments, or to obtain details of complaints.2) Keep records of patient interactions and transactions, recording details of inquiries, complaints, and comments, as well as actions taken.3) Resolve patients’ service or scheduling complaints by performing activities such as rescheduling, canceling appointments, and referring them on to the practice as appropriate.4) Check to ensure that appropriate changes were made to resolve patients’ problems.5) Contact patients in order to respond to inquiries or to notify them of needed health related activities.6) Refer unresolved patient grievances or issues to designated practice departments for further investigation. 7) Determine charges for services requested, and arrange for billing.8) Complete forms, prepare change of address records, and issue orders, using computers.9) Review insurance related protocols in order to determine whether a particular care event is covered by insurance.10) Compare disputed outcome with original intent and information from records, and execute corrective action sub-optimum outcomes.11) Recommend improvements in procedures in order to prevent future problems.
